Charles A. "Sonny" Coats

Charles A. “Sonny” Coats, age 81 of Millwood, passed away Thursday, September14, 2023, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. He was born on November 27, 1941, in Louisville, the son of Roy T. and Gladys Coats.

Sonny enjoyed spending time with his family and in his free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Left to honor Sonny’s memory are his children, Charlotte Ann Holcomb (Joe), and Cheri Lynn McCombs (James); five grandchildren, Jason (Charla), Amy, Jamie (Robert), James, Jr. (Emily) and Charles (Sidney); several great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Willie Coats and Kathy Dunn.

Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude Jewell Coats who passed away January 14, 2012; one son, Charles Thomas Coats; one daughter, Ruby Jane Coats; one brother, Exie Carroll; four sisters, Alene Duvall, Kathleen Armstrong, Geri and Arlene.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 18, 2023 at Leitchfield Memorial Chapel with Bro. Chris Conder officiating. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday and again from 9:00 am until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
