Hazel Haire

Hazel Mae Haire, age 92, of Caneyville, KY passed away on August 26, 2020 at the Grayson Nursing and Rehabilitation in Leitchfield, KY. She was born on August 8, 1928 in Caneyville, KY, the daughter of the late Claude William and Clarenda Mae Woosley Parks. During her work career, she is best remembered in her Blue Boar Cafeteria uniform, serving food to patrons for many years at the St. Matthews location. This is when she drove around Louisville in her green Gremlin and hung out at the White Castle with friends. Hazel enjoyed walks on the beach collecting sea shells, hunting for treasures in Caney Creek, drives through the country, good finds at yard sales and flea markets, pretty flowers and quilts, colorful clothing, silver jewelry, dancing, bingo, word search books, shared meals with friends and loved ones, church visitors, and especially family phone calls, greeting cards, and visits. Interestingly, she once lived in France but resided in Kentucky most of her long life. In her final five years, her home was at Grayson Manor where she developed friendships and received compassionate care. Her health began to fail in recent months following the passing of her best friend and sister, Betty. This loss was compounded by the impact of prolonged isolation imposed by COVID-19 visiting restrictions. She escaped the virus but not loneliness. Fun-loving and adventurous, she had always looked forward to opportunities to socialize and go on outings. She is survived by 6 nieces Judy Daugherty, Anna Daugherty, Janet Shartzer (Jerry), Kathy George Carden, Diana George, and Amy George; 3 nephews Hilbert Earl Woosley (Brenda), Donald Woosley (Beverly), and Shaun George (Lisa); one brother-in-law Joseph George, and several great nieces and nephews. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Haire; four sisters Betty Woosley, Minnie Burden, Alma Jean Daugherty, and Sally George; nephew Michael Burden (Debby); and brother-in-laws Hilbert Woosley, Lovell Daugherty, and Chalmer Burden. It was her wish to be cremated and not have a memorial service. However, the family would cherish hearing stories of fond memories of their beloved aunt who touched many lives.
