Lorah Nell Dupin, age 87 of Big Clifty, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown. She was born on September 10, 1935 in Hardinsburg, Kentucky the daughter of the late Preston Clay and Bennie Frances Cahill Garner. "Our sweet Mamaw Nellie passed away very unexpectedly Thursday afternoon. By the Grace of God she was surrounded by her family and we were all able to be there to say goodbye. Our hears are brotken and our lives will definitely never be the same. She was unlike anyone that we ever met. She was spunky and sassy and wasn't agraid to try anything. She could do anything that she put her mind to. She always welcomed anyone in to her home and definitely made sure that they had a full belly when they left. She was one of the most hardworking people we knew. When we were little we would watch her get up, fix breakfast, work in the tobacco, do laundry, fix lunch, work in the garden, break beans, can beans, fix supper, fill a Home Interior oder, and still make time to make us feel like the most special little people in the world. She taught us so many things. Most importantly she taught us to pray and how to always put God first. We definitely inherited a love of cooking from her. She was the best cook and could make a meal out of anything. When asked for the recipe her response was always, "oh just a dab of this or smidge of this or a handful of this". She is world famous for her green beans, anyone who ever ate them knows why. She also passed down a love of sparkling things. She loved to dress up and always had to have a matching "pocketbook:. She taught us to never throw away a good Cool Whip bowl of butter dish. You never know when you might need them. She taught us how to work hard and how to go after your dreams. She became one of the most successful Home Interior displayers in this area, even after papaw wasn't too crazy about the idea. She traveled all over to do "shows" and had customers from all over. She treated all of her customers like family. She could take a pile of flowers and turn them into the most beautiful thing. She handmade almost all of the decorations for Carla's wedding, something that will be cherished always. When Home Interior decided to move everyting to the internet, we thought she would retire, but instead she bought a laptop. We loved helping her fill orders, one of our favorite childhood memories. She taught us how to love our family unconditionally. She was the best wife an she loved papaw with all of her heart. She was the best daughter. She loved her sister, Ethel, so much and was the best big sister. She was the best mother and the best grandmother and great grandmother. She always wanted us to have everything we needed. Anyone that ever met her could tell you she was something special. Our lives will forever be changed. She never let us leave or hang up the phone without saying God Bless and God be with you. It's hard to lose her but we know that she is with God and she is strollin' over Heaven with papaw now. We love you, Mamaw Nellie with all out hearts." Left to honor Lorah's memory are her children, Beverly Ray (Keith) and Linda Charnell Cox (Carl); three grandchildren, DeWayne Ray (Gabrielle), Carla Scott (Joey), and Candace Dailey (Jason); six great-grandchildren, Aidan Scott, Presleigh Scott, Calleigh Jo Scott, Benjamin Ray, Gillian Ray, and Sophia Ray; and one sister Ethel G. Dupin. Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Dupin; and her brother in law, James Russell "Jimmy" Dupin.
